Perspective

I have been thinking about the home! The sight, smell and the feel of it! I'm passionate about making a house a home! I want my home to be inviting and comfortable, but I want to keep a healthy perspective on it. Does anyone else struggle with this? Where do you draw the line between an inviting home and being consumed by it? Am I trying to keep my home orderly to bless my family or because I want to impress others?

In my life I try to keep the order of God, my husband, my girls, my home and then my job. Notice I said "I try", because many times I fail and the order gets mixed up! Yet, I still strive to keep this goal with the right perspective. I am making some small steps to try and keep the correct order.

For instance, I'm setting my alarm earlier to spend time with God! I make a point several times throughout the day to focus on my husband and girls. I'm trying to keep the house looking presentable.

What have you found to help you keep a "proper perspective" in dealing with your home?

This is such an issue, isn't it? I've found that my early morning time with God is vital in keeping the right perspective on things. And then sometimes I have to unplug and pull away from all the cool inspiration I find online and in print around me-keeps that spirit of discontentment away!

And more than I anything I try to remember that my house has people living it, and so it should look lived in!

So no, you are certainly not the only one to struggle with this!

Thanks for stopping by. I totally can realate with this. It does become consuming. I think as mothers we want to do it all. It is impossibe and we fail each time. For me when I have major momments of stress. It is usually because I have not put God first. When I put God, Rob, and kids and then fun things It usually goes better. You do need that time for yourself but it is easy to get consumed into something espcially since the home thing is so addicting. I can't live a week without going to the thrift shops it seems. I need to realize that it will all still be there in a week or so if I can't make it. You also have to remember that many woman who have these decorating blogs have older kids or no kids at all. Hope this helps. Keep in touch.

Keeping priorities straight seems to be an ongoing effort for me!
I like my home to look nice but I enjoy more the task of making tasty, nutritious (for the most part) meals.
I find that identifiying my main passions ~ beyond God, family, home ~ helps me keep MY priorities in order. For example I appreciate home decorating but it is not my passion. So I will spend more time on perusing recipes, cookbooks, nutritional tips, etc., than something that is interesting but not my passion. I rely on the passion of others (like Alisa@ Carolina Panache - decor blog) to give me quick tips on those subjects.

Great question. I see God all over the place out doors. So I step out and bring a bit of nature in. I know He created it with His hands and it makes me feel I have brought Him into my home.

One thing I've learned is to not care about what other's think. Everyone has their own way of living - and that is what makes it authentic! I love my family first, which makes a home, and I love the feel of my home - like what happens in it. Love bringing my yard and garden inside, along with making the outside look nice. But if my family is not in order - who cares about the house! Hey, I think I'll use this for a post. Hee Hee. Hope you've had a wonderful week, Kim.
