It is starting to feel like spring here in West Michigan! As much as I love summer and all the activities that summer time brings, I will miss the "slow pace" of winter! I realized I never showed you one of the winter activities that I did with my daughter and some of her friends - sewing lessons.
As a young girl, my Mom taught me how to sew, and with her help and instruction from the 4-H leaders, I learned this valuable skill at a young age. However, I am finding fewer young people who know how to sew. So, after some persuading from my daughter, I decided to start teaching her some of these life skills. I also thought it would be easier, and motivating for me, if I taught a couple of girls at the same time.
Here they are working on their PJ bottoms:
Do you know how to sew? When and how did you learn?

I do. Not very well, but that is because I rarely practice. My mom spent/spends time teaching me how to use the sewing machine. She taught me to hand sew, too. I did get a refresher in Home Ec in middle school (do they still have that for kids these days, what with all the testing)? I know, don't get you started, right? :)
every summer I would bone up for a week with Grandma by being sure I watched the cliffhanger Friday episode of The Young and The Restless~ because Grandma watched it every day. I would definitely have a conversation starter...during those warm sunny country summer days, she and I would sit on her screened porch, listen to the radio, and she would teach me how to work on my basting stitch. I remember making dool clothes, later on, crosstitch and latchhook kits.
It was fun working with the hands while Victor and Nikki's lives played out so complicated and angst ridden, while in contrast our greatest contention was a crooked stitch here and there
i do not know how to sew and i want to learn this valuable skills. Sewing is a very good skills that everyone must know. You are a good mother as you teaching your children how to sew. Its good.
